Republican Fuckery

The articles I keep seeing about Sarah Palin just baffle me. Why do people like this woman?
Palin played a technicality in the compensation allocated for travel by classifying her residence in the state capitol as her primary home, allowing her to get paid any time she is in residence at her actual home. Her family has also traveled quite a bit on the state's dime. What ever happened to fiscal conservatives? I guess if she's not paying, then she thinks it's conservative.
Sarah Palin is under investigation for abuse of power. Troopergate, some have called it. Her former brother-in-law's boss was fired. The reason? Apparently, he wouldn't fire her former brother-in-law. Looks like it would have made her sister's custody case easier for her and her sister if the ex was out of a job. And, there's a nice recording of someone from her office addressing the issue. Lawyers have been called in and investigations are underway. GMA also reported on it.
GMA also reported on something that I first heard about on DailyKos. Palin supported a policy that forced victims of rape to cover the bill (usually hundreds of dollars) for their own RapeKits. What the fuck. If a woman in Palin's hometown is assaulted, the victim has to foot the bill for her own investigation. As though reporting and prosecution of rape and sexual assault wasn't traumatic enough! MSNBC also addressed this. Alaskan women's groups, the GMA report points out, are none too pleased with Palin. As the report states: "Alaska is #1 in the nation per capita for rape cases and second for murder of women by men."
The campaign ad about the bridge to nowhere is rather absurd, isn't it? After all she actually campaigned on the position that she was for the bridge, and then kept the money when it wasn't built. How is that saying no thanks to congress?
Palin is quite open about her religiousness, but the boundaries of that are sometimes... too much. The book banning she queried about before firing the librarian of the city she served as mayor for is inappropriate plain and simple. I'm sorry. Book banning is never appropriate... As is evidenced by the fact that librarian was reinstated after public outrage.
Her secretiveness is also bizarre. I think this snarky DailyKos post on the subject of her use of a private Yahoo!Mail account for "state business" and her attempts at the invocation of Bush/Cheney style "executive privilege" to keep the government emails she forwarded to her husband out of the sight of the eyes of those who might be critical makes a few good stabs.
All in all, with 50% of the species being female, I find myself wanting to headdesk when comments are made to the effect that any girl would want to vote for another girl simply by virtue of both being female. This woman doesn't even afford the possibility for the choice of termination for rape victims. If you're in Alaska, apparently, this is even more dangerous a notion. Goodness knows she didn't instill in her children the appropriate use of birth control. The articles on such are mixed, but I assume she's probably against any birth control or education. It baffles me that she's touting her child's shotgun wedding as a victory for conservative ideals. How about: Abstinence only education doesn't work?
Then again, I don't understand how a person who is anti-abortion under any circumstances is a lifetime member of the NRA. So, I guess you just have to wait until a child is born... and then let that child get gunned down or accidentially shot.
Tonight's ABC News interview that Charlie Gibson did with Sarah Palin was pretty telling of her character, I think. It was the first interview she's done in the two weeks since her nomination. The giggles about how she pronounces "nuclear" like Bush aside, way to refuse the premise of of the question. There are only a few times I can remember seeing Charlie Gibson look that displeased. She seems to get so angry when perfectly valid questions are raised about her experience and qualifications. I don't think the Republican party as a whole understands how delicate John McCain seems physically to the American people. The condescending way she says "Charlie" personally irks me as well.
"Have you ever traveled outside the country prior to your trip to Kuwait/Germany last year?"
"Yeah! Canada, Mexico...Yeah."
Holy crap, lady. Vacations don't count. I know teenagers more traveled than her!
"Have you ever met a foreign head of state?"
"I have not, but..."
Let's not forget how Sarah Palin mocked community organizers. Heaven forbid someone wants to help others.
I feel like the American people are the butt of a terrible joke every time I see this woman's face on television.
