I'm sure I'm the last to hear about this (and via The Colbert Report no less!) but I just can't stop laughing. The SciFi channel is renaming themselves to the SyFy Channel to divorce themselves from the nerd image they feel is holding them back. Really? Seriously? The exec makes mention in the article that the change is in part to endear women to the network and boost ratings. Methinks good shows would do that. No? No? Apparently not. I stopped watching when they started airing more wrestling and reality shows than scifi. What does that make me?

Console yourselves ladies by visiting the Harlequin website and generating your own personalized romance novel blurb. It's beautiful. I imagine this is how they really write those plotlines.

Speaking of television that nobody watches, did anybody catch the premire of NBC's Kings? It's a retelling of biblical King David's story in a modern setting. Feels like a show that would be on Showtime or HBO but magically appeared on NBC when nobody was looking. No, really. It's premire was the lowest rated show on Sunday night. Go watch the first episode on Hulu why don't you? I find it pretty. I'd like it to get at least a little bit in before it's canceled and replaced with another Sherlock Holmes superdetective crime show.

Maybe I won't write about the con after all. Too much trouble. And nobody cares.

I watched Kings, I really liked it. I would have never heard about it unless you posted it. I think I'll try and catch the next episode. ^.^

Sweet! It really hasn't been advertized much. I think they want it to fail. =(

Yeah, normally NBC advertises the crap out of their new shows. You see it everywhere until you are so sick of it you don't wanna watch it. I hope Kings survives a season at least.

Me too, me too. I guess the recent drops from the fall season made them bashful? I don't get it. At least we'll get one or two more episodes. =(

NBC was doing very ambiguous ads for "Kings" several months ago (with just the image of the Gamboa butterfly-flag and the website address for kings2009.com). More descriptive ads were being run on the network after the Super Bowl.

(I've practically been living in a cave for the past several months, so I've probably seen more of the ads than any human should be subjected to, since my TV options were limited to NBC and PBS. I think the above paragraph pretty well proves it.)

As for the premiere itself, I thought it was interesting and want to see how it pans out in the long run. It was a bit of a let-down that the David vs. Goliath thing was over with in the first 20 minutes.

I saw the ambiguious ads and looked up and then hadn't seen any since. I was actually looking foreward to it and I had no idea it was on on Sunday. I didn't figure it out until I saw the main guy interviewed on... Daily Show? I think? And the reviews are just brutal. I don't get it. :/

Meh. They hit three points of the story in the first episode, true. Too early to tell?

I owe you for the link to the Harlequin website. Made my day, seriously. x)

I totally wouldn't mind to hear about your con weekend (I'm a nerd like that), but it's up to you. I'm glad you shared pictures of the finished outfit!

That is the lamest [reason for a] name change ever. Why would they want to alienate (lawls) most of the reason they exist as a channel?? And I'd think women would be more into proper spelling than guys, really...

Ouch! That romance novel blurb was painful! I seriously think they screwed up on mine, b/c stereotypically I got the wrong results. I chose a male model named Guy Smexy (which was a great name to have to read over and over), and somehow ended up with kids and needing to hide on Mars to escape a villain. The part that bothers me most is that it's all about the friggin' kids! When the fuck did I say I wanted kids?! I chose writer, damnit, writer! "Best Mommie EVER!" be damned! (And like a male model would have the brains to find his long-lost kids and hide us on Mars anyhow--that's what cowboys are for.)

I started to write about the Kon, but only to realize that I was still fuming from the negative happenings and I don't particularly want to look back and go, "Oh yeah, that totally sucked when everything kept going wrong. What a grand time."

I know, right? But, the higher ups I think want to model it after USA? I don't get it and it sucks that now that the SciFi Channel is dead we need to wait for someone else to start a new SciFi Channel to get actual scifi. *emo tear* It's gonna be a sad couple of years for space ships.

I got that crap too! It is faithful to most romance novels, though. There are almost always kids or magic pregnancies involved, yes? You enjoying your Viking book?

Amen. -_-; It was like the weekend was divided into about two hour chunks. Every other block of two hours sucked balls. By Monday night I was quite emo. I'm not sure what I would have done differently, either. :/

I dunno, I have a LOT of romance novels and most of them do NOT involve kids. Of course, that's the type that I prefer, so it might just be that the authors I read also do not like/want kids. (The Sheikh book left me speechless. I've not gotten through the first chapter yet b/c they basically said he was a cowboy Prince--once I can get over that image, though, I should finish it relatively quickly and let you know if the cheese was good or not. ^_^)

I know what I'd have done differently--not been staff. Holy crap. I know I say it every time, but it EATS me! What free time I do have is mostly for getting food, and I end up missing all the other interesting panels and never really get to explore the dealers room until the last day when half of it has packed up and left. So though I've vowed to not be staff again, I'm sure the lure of a free room and badge will draw me in again next year. T_T

On a slightly more positive note, I have a new Dream Cosplay in mind that actually has a shot of being made. I'm having trouble deciding what kind of mask to get with the zentai I'll need to order, though.. and I need an extension to add to the wonderfully brilliant yellow wig you gave me! YAY! (Ironically, I keep finding myself wanting to be characters with yellow hair and orange outfits. -_-;)

I still think that if you were in charge of the game shows yourself and didn't have to constantly go back and edit the shit work of an incompetant that you'd be easier. But, I'm supposed to talk you out of it, right? DON'T BE STAFF!

Extentions how? Because I bought yellow extentions of a different color with that one originally...

I'm hoping to convince them to make me staff and only have to run Japanardy, and maybe help out with Singled Out. Then I'd have LOADS more free time, and still get staff perks. But fat chance of that, right? Yes, be my manager and tell me to hold out for something better! If only it were possible to direct game shows from afar... *le sigh*

Extension for added volume, the chick (http://i7.photobucket.com/albums/y270/misawawa/ste-gwe.jpg?t=1237519420) has a weird Bump-It (http://www.bighappiehair.com/) type hairstyle.

No, I'm your agent! A better contract must be negotiated. *pounds fist*

Well, if I can find them I'll send them along and you can play with them? I finally have access to transportation again (the parents are back in town with the car. yay?) so I'll be mailing your sword tomorrow.

EDIT: They're not a different color, they're a different texture slightly. Same color. Either way, if I can find them I'll send them.

Sweet. You can just set them aside when you find them, I'm not sure I can get this done in time for ACen anyhow. (I'd also like to get the other band members, but I dunno how many people would be into this... and I surprisingly really wanna be the girl. Normally, I'd choose the short drummer dude for myself.)

It turns out my sister is moving to the Madison area in a month or so, and I'm almost certain I could get her boyfriend to be one of the guys and have them both come to a con. (She usually only dates guys who are cool with doing weird shit.) If only Blian were here, I could probably just attack him with a costume... Why don't we have male cosplaying friends?! DAMN IT. I should have attacked the It we saw and forced a friendship.
