Entertainment Fail

I'm sure I'm the last to hear about this (and via The Colbert Report no less!) but I just can't stop laughing. The SciFi channel is renaming themselves to the SyFy Channel to divorce themselves from the nerd image they feel is holding them back. Really? Seriously? The exec makes mention in the article that the change is in part to endear women to the network and boost ratings. Methinks good shows would do that. No? No? Apparently not. I stopped watching when they started airing more wrestling and reality shows than scifi. What does that make me?
Console yourselves ladies by visiting the Harlequin website and generating your own personalized romance novel blurb. It's beautiful. I imagine this is how they really write those plotlines.
Speaking of television that nobody watches, did anybody catch the premire of NBC's Kings? It's a retelling of biblical King David's story in a modern setting. Feels like a show that would be on Showtime or HBO but magically appeared on NBC when nobody was looking. No, really. It's premire was the lowest rated show on Sunday night. Go watch the first episode on Hulu why don't you? I find it pretty. I'd like it to get at least a little bit in before it's canceled and replaced with another Sherlock Holmes superdetective crime show.
Maybe I won't write about the con after all. Too much trouble. And nobody cares.

Date: 2009-03-19 09:25 pm (UTC)(I've practically been living in a cave for the past several months, so I've probably seen more of the ads than any human should be subjected to, since my TV options were limited to NBC and PBS. I think the above paragraph pretty well proves it.)
As for the premiere itself, I thought it was interesting and want to see how it pans out in the long run. It was a bit of a let-down that the David vs. Goliath thing was over with in the first 20 minutes.

Date: 2009-03-19 06:30 pm (UTC)I totally wouldn't mind to hear about your con weekend (I'm a nerd like that), but it's up to you. I'm glad you shared pictures of the finished outfit!

Date: 2009-03-20 02:15 am (UTC)Ouch! That romance novel blurb was painful! I seriously think they screwed up on mine, b/c stereotypically I got the wrong results. I chose a male model named Guy Smexy (which was a great name to have to read over and over), and somehow ended up with kids and needing to hide on Mars to escape a villain. The part that bothers me most is that it's all about the friggin' kids! When the fuck did I say I wanted kids?! I chose writer, damnit, writer! "Best Mommie EVER!" be damned! (And like a male model would have the brains to find his long-lost kids and hide us on Mars anyhow--that's what cowboys are for.)
I started to write about the Kon, but only to realize that I was still fuming from the negative happenings and I don't particularly want to look back and go, "Oh yeah, that totally sucked when everything kept going wrong. What a grand time."

Date: 2009-03-20 02:24 am (UTC)I got that crap too! It is faithful to most romance novels, though. There are almost always kids or magic pregnancies involved, yes? You enjoying your Viking book?
Amen. -_-; It was like the weekend was divided into about two hour chunks. Every other block of two hours sucked balls. By Monday night I was quite emo. I'm not sure what I would have done differently, either. :/

Date: 2009-03-20 03:11 am (UTC)I know what I'd have done differently--not been staff. Holy crap. I know I say it every time, but it EATS me! What free time I do have is mostly for getting food, and I end up missing all the other interesting panels and never really get to explore the dealers room until the last day when half of it has packed up and left. So though I've vowed to not be staff again, I'm sure the lure of a free room and badge will draw me in again next year. T_T
On a slightly more positive note, I have a new Dream Cosplay in mind that actually has a shot of being made. I'm having trouble deciding what kind of mask to get with the zentai I'll need to order, though.. and I need an extension to add to the wonderfully brilliant yellow wig you gave me! YAY! (Ironically, I keep finding myself wanting to be characters with yellow hair and orange outfits. -_-;)

Date: 2009-03-20 03:26 am (UTC)Extension for added volume, the chick (http://i7.photobucket.com/albums/y270/misawawa/ste-gwe.jpg?t=1237519420) has a weird Bump-It (http://www.bighappiehair.com/) type hairstyle.

Date: 2009-03-20 03:32 am (UTC)Well, if I can find them I'll send them along and you can play with them? I finally have access to transportation again (the parents are back in town with the car. yay?) so I'll be mailing your sword tomorrow.
