http://www.scandalist.com/ -- celebrity gossip; this was my "connection" to us pop culture while i was in china. there's a lot of stuff about celebrities, but also just random stuff including really weird or stupid "citizen's arrest."

www.puzzles.com & www.puzzlersparadise -- online puzzles; i find doing online puzzles while listening to music to be very relaxing. the first place has this really great collection of logic problems and the second features word-descrambler called "drop quotes."
