whoo! I'm not the only one! Yeah, my friend and I were scouring the net and all we could come up with were inaccurate depictions on ebay. The silhouettes there were sheath and I could swear it was an A line.
I think those who do born or klingon costumes do it themselves. they study what they see and recreate it. There are a LOT of alien life forms and I think most of those costumes are homemade.
Seriously! Exactly my thoughts and process. I guess they modified it to reduce the amount of fabric it took? I'm not sure.
Well, yeah. Of course they're homemade. But, I assumed there was a community around it. Like, forums and guides and recomendations and tutorials. As I continue to search I'm seeing slightly more, but it's still nothing like Star Wars or cosplay people have. Or maybe it's just not centralized and that's more of what confuses me. *scratches head*
Ooh! Check this out: http://www.madwulf.com/Klingon.htm =D Bitchin!
I think there are shorts underneath. One description I read described that, but I didn't see them in any caps or stills. Sarong? No, not quite a sarong. Closer to a wrap dress. But, I think the flap/opening is mostly fake. You can see the zippers on the shoulders of the men's uniform, but the women's uniform... I dunno. It holds closed too well. *needs to watch some more*
Of course the movie completly reinvents both uniforms. And, has a crazy new textured fabric to boot.....
You would think, since it's such a huge part of the culture, that there would be a million communities. But nooo... Yes! Exactly!
It's totally a man's world concerning star trek sadly. the men's uniforms are described in great detail and are replicated everywhere. The only female uniform I've seen out there is the TNG uniform shirt which (if you ask me) looks so...masculine.
...You know, I think we're about 5 steps away from klingon boggle =P
*laugh* Except the dress/skirt uniform was worn on men, too, in season 1 and 2 of TNG! Really, TOS is the only one with a distinctly female uniform. So, that much I can understand. Sort of. Except, you'd think like cosplay women would be the ones primarily making outfits and yet, no. Not the case, it seems.

You've got all sorts of women dressing up as orion slave girls or TNG uniforms. But absolutely 0 on TOS female uniform. *sigh* So sad.
